The Story Behind Faith Over Fear: Why This Biblical Truth Matters Today
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. — 2 Timothy 1:7
If you've seen "Faith Over Fear" on apparel or social media, you might wonder: Is this just a trendy slogan, or deeper biblical truth?
At BC25, "Faith Over Fear" is the foundation of everything we create. Every design, every product, every conversation stems from 2 Timothy 1:7.
The Biblical Foundation
Timothy was a young pastor in Ephesus during intense persecution. He faced opposition from false teachers and cultural hostility. Paul, writing from prison, encouraged him with this truth:
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
Breaking Down the Verse
God Has Not Given Us a Spirit of Fear
Fear (deilia in Greek) refers to cowardice that paralyzes us. When fear controls decisions, it's not from the Holy Spirit. This doesn't mean believers never feel fear—we're human. But a controlling spirit of fear is not God's design.
But of Power
God gives dunamis—supernatural power and strength. The same power of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. When you feel inadequate, God's power is available.
And of Love
God gives agape—unconditional love that casts out fear (1 John 4:18). When tempted to protect yourself, God's love empowers you to love others boldly.
And of a Sound Mind
God gives sophronismos—discipline, self-control, sound judgment. A mind that thinks clearly and isn't controlled by anxious thoughts. When thoughts spiral, God offers mental clarity and peace.

Faith Isn't the Absence of Fear
Jesus experienced distress in Gethsemane (Matthew 26:38). Fear is natural. "Faith Over Fear" means fear doesn't get the final say. When fear whispers "You can't," faith declares "God can."
Faith isn't the absence of fear—it's the decision that fear won't control your steps.
